It might be helpful to share what I currently use for my office setup and where I got the items. Just an FYI, I’m neither a frugal guy or a high roller, but I do like to get quality stuff for a good deal. I’m always following the hot deals forums at FatWallet.com and Anandtech.com
Desk:Staples Reversible Desk $129.99 - Slick and sturdy; should be able to make the move to my next office.
Chair: Costco Brand $???.?? - It’s a couple years ago but very comfy.
Computer: Dell Latitude D620 $????.?? - Company issued
LCD: ViewSonic VX2025wm ~$249 - Sweet widescreen LCD that was picked up at Office Depot as an open item and for an additional 20% off after “Black Friday Weekend”.
All-in-one Printer/Scanner/Fax: Canon PIXMA MP830 $269 - I love Canon printers; picked it up at Circuit City using the rest of the GC from the Vonage deal below. It got a pretty good review at Steve’s Digicams. We also have the PIXMA iP8500.
Desk Phone: Panasonic KX-TG5761$69.99 - “Black Friday Weekend” Deal; also picked it up at Circuit City using part of the GC from the Vonage deal. I wanted some simple with speaker phone on the base and wireless phone, 5.8 GHz, vmail alert, and no electronic vmail. I also didn’t want to pay more than $100.
ISP: Verizon FIOS $ /month - I legitimately get 15Mbps down and about 3Mbps up. It’s ridonkulous - I go to Speakeasy’s speed test site almost everyday. I can’t believe I actually like a service Verizon is providing.
Router: Actiontec MI424-WR $FR.EE (best price) - Verizon is currently giving this to their users as the home router. It’s not bad, some of the things I’m trying to do that I would think would be easy to setup is not very intuitive but there seems to be a pretty good “support” community out there for this hardware.
FYI… I also use a hardware firewall in between the router and my network as well as software firewalls and such on all my PCs ;)
VoIP Service: Vonage $24.99/month - Absolutely ridonkulous deal I saw it at FatWallet.com. Basically $24.99 a month, a free Linksys PAP2, $110 in rebates and a $200 GC at Circuit City. I’ve been very happy so far with the Vonage service, I’ll report back in a month or so
VoIP Phone Adapter: Linksys PAP2 $FR.EE (best price) - Does what it says it does, so it works for me.
