More Tips for Telepeeps

Telecommuters Need to Develop Special Skills

I think "Gather 'Round the Virtual Water Cooler" is very important for a Telepeep. You gotta use whatever means necessary to connect, discuss, collaborate and etc. I really like the "The Best Technology for the Meeting" chart at the end of the article. I would recommend most folks print out the chart and tape it to your desk or monitor. Nothing really new, but everything was put together and summarized quite well.

Are you a Telepeep with young kids? Make sure your home office is safe

I came across this list of things you should make sure you do to keep your office space kid safe. It was put together by the Home Safety Council. I can't say it has anything earth shattering, but it is a good set of reminders. I personally went through it and need to make a couple changes to my office layout. I have a very adventurous two-year old who likes to sneak into dad's office once in a while.

Here's a suggestion for Step Eleven: Telecommute

Forbes released "Ten Steps To A Less Stressful Commute" and surprisingly there wasn't any mention of telecommuting. Here's a thought - why not eliminate commute stress and most likely improve productivity at the same time by working from home? I guess that might have not really been the point of the article, but I'm still surprised it didn't get mentioned. I do find their suggestion of upgrading your car as one step a funny one. Yeah my commute sucks, but damn I drive a beautiful luxury car ;)

A list of "Virtual Workplace Dos and Don'ts"

This was a link off of the MSNBC article on the Virtual Workplace Dos and Don'ts. It's a pretty good list and I actually think the most important piece for managers and executives to read is the "Don't" section. I think anyone who manages a virtual workforce should print it out and paste next to their desk or monitor.

Yes, Honey...

When you first get married, 9 out 10 married people will tell you the most important thing to do to maintain a happy marriage is to communicate. On MSNBC there is an article that discusses how communication is key in establishing a successful telework program. I definitely agree communication is critical but that's in in any job or relationship for that manner. I find that as a Telepeep you are probably communicating more often with peers, bosses and subordinates then when working in the office and sitting next to them. I sort of see it as the nature of the beast, but perhaps that's just me.

Home Office Feng Shui for Telecommuters

What is Feng Shui?

Feng shui is an ancient art that incorporates principles of balance and the flow of chi or vital energy. For about 4,000 years, the Chinese have been using feng shui to ensure good luck, health, and prosperity in their lives.

In this article, we will attempt to provide a Feng Shui primer to telecommuters in a home office.
